Many people know about the endangered and threatened species of Ohio wildlife, but Ohio’s extirpated species are less well known. When a species is extirpated, it has been eliminated from a geographic region but can still be found in other places outside of that region. Learn about Ohio’s extirpated wildlife, why they are no longer in the state, where in North America these creatures can still be found, and the species that have returned to Ohio through wildlife conservation practices.
