Aeraland Recreation Area

Aeraland Recreation Area

1141 Township Road 243, Fostoria, OH 44830

Aeraland Recreation Area is a rural county park in a quiet country setting. The scenic South Branch of the Portage River flows through the 74.8 acres. Visitors may picnic, hike and birdwatch in relative isolation and solitude.

The parkland was originally created in 1981 as a private recreational area for the employees, families and guests, and retirees of Fostoria’s Atlas Crankshaft Corporation. After the Fostoria plant closed in 1999, the property was donated to the Washington Township trustees who oversaw maintenance until the area was given to the Hancock Park District in 2012.

Aeraland Recreation Area’s passive nature is balanced by the Arcadia Soccer Club’s use of several acres for youth soccer. Park facilities include a picnic shelter, Highline Trail, Goose Lake, restroom, and parking.

Features:

  • 75 Acres of Rolling Hills, Forest, and Open Meadows
  • Goose Lake (3-acres)
  • Picnic Shelter
  • Picnic Sites
  • Green Space for Outdoor Games
  • Highline Trail (Primitive)
  • Upland Trail
  • Soccer Fields
  • Port-A-John
  • South Branch of the Portage River

Happy National Squirrel Appreciation Day, a day to learn about and celebrate some of the world’s cutest rodents. Here’s the thing about squirrels: some find them a bother at the bird feeder. But can those people leap across a space ten times the length of their body? These tree-scaling animals are medium-sized rodents in a family that also includes chipmunks, marmots, prairie dogs, flying squirrels, ground squirrels and tree squirrels. ... See MoreSee Less
