September is a great time to go hiking on the Prairie Trail at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. The park is peaceful in the evening, and watching the sun set over Shank Lake can be a satisfying experience. The Aurand Run Trail and the Prairie Trail are short in distance, but searching for wildlife (including bats) and appreciating scenic views may take some time. It will be time well spent.
