Enter HPD 25th Annual Photography Contest
Entries due 11:59 p.m. on November 6, 2020
Amateur photographers are invited to participate in the Hancock Park District’s (HPD) 25th Annual Photography Contest. All photographs must have been taken from November 1, 2019 to November 1, 2020 and depict imagery in the Hancock Park System, the Blanchard River Greenway Trail or the Blanchard River. Photos should strive to capture the essence of your favorite park location in the Hancock Park System and may include scenery, buildings, animals or people at the park. Eligible locations can be found in the HPD’s Seasonal Program & Event Guide.
Amateurs of all ages are eligible to participate. Photographers age 17 and younger must have parental consent for each photograph submission via the Photography Contest Entry and Release Form that may be downloaded from www.HancockParks.com under “Park News”. All photographs must be unpublished, must not have won any award and must be submitted by the original photographer. Your photograph submission certifies that you are the sole owner and copyright holder of the photograph. Each photograph requires a written consent for contest submission and publication from all persons shown in the photographs via the Photography Contest Entry and Release Form. All photographs must be submitted at a maximum file size of 5 MB and in .jpeg format. All entries require the name of the park in which the photograph was taken.
Submit one Photography Contest Entry and Release Form with each digital photograph to firstname.lastname@example.org with “HPD Photography Contest” in the subject line no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020. Prints will not be accepted. Contestants may submit a maximum of five photograph submissions. Watermarks are not acceptable. HPD employees and members of their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
All photographs will be judged on inspirational quality, the placement or arrangement of visual elements, and how well photographs convey beauty, essence and/or enjoyment. Judges will evaluate all valid entries and pick the 12 best photos. The entrants of the top 12 photos will be notified of their status within 10 days of November 20, 2020. The winning photos will be featured in a 12-month 2021 calendar, in the Spring 2021 Program & Event Guide, and in the outdoor information center at the HPD Administrative Office. One photo will be selected as the Grand Prize winner. That photo will appear on the calendar cover and the entrant will be awarded a cash prize. Winners will receive one printed copy of the 2020 calendar. The calendar will also be available as a free PDF download at www.HancockParks.com.
All qualified entries will appear on www.HancockParks.com and the HPD Facebook page and Instagram profile where the public can vote for one People’s Choice winner from all qualified entries. The photo that receives the most “Likes” on the HPD Facebook page between November 12, 2020 and December 20, 2020 will be named the People’s Choice winner. The HPD will notify the People’s Choice winner via the email address used to enter the photo at time of entry.
